5 Books to Beat Summer Boredom

July 21, 2021

By Christa Protano

If you chose not to send your kids to camp, you may be looking for alternative ways to keep your little ones busy during the summer. Thanks to these four titles, your boy or girl can experience their favorite characters while honing creative skills and maybe even learning something new. We promise they won’t even miss the screen time.

Nickelodeon: Write and Wipe: Learn with Us!

Whether your child will be starting pre-school or kindergarten, it can’t hurt to familiarize them with basic math and reading skills. This 40-page wipe-and-write book introduces 3-5 year olds to letters, numbers, and shapes with the help of the Paw Patrol, Dora the Explorer, Blue's Clues & You and more of their favorite characters. Easy-to-wipe pages guarantee the learning will last all summer long!

Disney Mickey and Friends: Learning Time

Learning your way around the clock just got a whole lot more fun thanks to Mickey! While kids can move the minute and hour hands around themselves, parents can use this interactive board book to teach their bright stars a new school routine.

DreamWorks Spirit Untamed: Coloring & Activity Book

Fans of DreamWork’s latest animated film can bring home the magic of Spirit and friends with this 100-plus-page coloring and activity book. Complete with a rainbow pencil and stickers, young artists will love putting their own creative spin on the movie’s beloved characters.

LEGO(R) Jurassic World(TM): Let's Paint Dinosaurs

If a trip to the science museum is on your summer bucket list, get your wannabe-paleontologists ready with this activity book. The youngest of dino fans can paint their way through a prehistoric era as their favorite LEGO(R) friends lead the way to larger-than-life Jurassic beasts.

Disney: Raya and the Last Dragon Movie Theater Storybook

Though theaters are open, I’m still hesitant to take my kids to the movies. That’s why I love this book that lets me bring a little bit of silver screen — and Disney! — magic home. Parents can read the story of Raya and the Last Dragon, while the younger set can follow along with a handheld projector and interchangeable slides.
